In pursuit of happiness, first you need to find your passion without being obsessed with the outcome.
One of the fundamental issues of a modern civilisation is the fact that money has become an obsession for most and in pursuit of happiness we have lost our passion for living. Because of our social structures, an individual is mainly engaged in a profession for the financial gain. One’s success purely depends on their earnings. Most are just working to pay the bills and there is no passion towards their line of work whatsoever; spending 8-10 hours daily conducting a task that brings them no joy or satisfaction. It is has become more of a compulsory activity so they can make a living and survive. However, what are they trying so hard to survive for, remains a mystery.
Obviously living this way is going to be painful and dis-satisfactory. A purposeless life which makes no sense; to survive and to do more of what one hates doing. In pursuit of happiness, we have become obsessed with material possessions. Falsely, happiness has become a few abstract ideas. A big house, an expensive car, more power and a higher social ranking. What others think about us, guide our thoughts and actions and define our characters. We are in pursuit of an illusion without even knowing the reason, perhaps just to fit in and be accepted. An illusion that only leads to a fearful existence filled with “what ifs”. And that is creating an emptiness in our heart and leads to a purposeless life. Following this illusion often pushes the individual to the brink of a beak-down and eventually to suicidal thoughts.
There is a way-out…
With that being said, there is a way-out. It is possible to live a fulfilling life by looking at existence from a different perspective. That’s all it takes to overcome the illusion but you need to stop following the herd and reassess your situation.
One way to shift our perspective is to realise and find our passion without concentrating on a specific outcome. Allow your passion to guide you and follow it to eventually achieve success. Being engaged in an activity which you really enjoy, no matter the outcome, is the key to a happy life. When you are passionate about your work, you always try to do your best and that results in a beautiful outcome and ultimately adds value to the humanity. A human being is at their best when adding value to other people’s lives or the environment they live in. By doing so, we tend to be helpful toward others and in return, be appreciated for our talents and abilities. A bi-flow of energy between the individual and the environment if you will.
Each and every person is unique…
To overcome the illusion, you have to realise, each and every individual is unique. We all comes with a unique set of talents and abilities. It is not necessary for an individual to act like everyone else does. You need to be yourself and discover your talents and passion, whatever they may be. That’s a priority in life. By pursing what naturally interests you, it is possible to rediscover yourself. Begin to build upon a solid foundation and to experience a joyful and fulfilling life. You don’t need to allow the society to define who you are. One needs to live and not only to survive.
Life is like a river and when you pursue your passion, you learn to paddle in the direction of flow and not against it. Progress will happen naturally and organically and you realise that life is not a struggle anymore. In pursuit of happiness while chasing your passion, you will learn to deal with life’s challenges and obstacles more effectively. You become better at what you do and create new opportunities for a better quality of life.
Success is the organic outcome of doing what you are passionate about and eventually transforming this passion into a profession.
